Triumph's state-of-the-art facility processes in excess of 6 million hogs each year, and features the latest food quality, safety innovations, and humane handling practices in the industry. The Company prides itself on producing the highest quality pork products found in the market today. Triumph Foods is currently seeking an Assistant Safety Manager that will oversee management and delivery of a broad range of safety functions on 2nd Shift in an industrial multi-shift, 800,000 + square foot facility.  This individual will provide professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of all health and safety programs on 2nd Shift, and will ensure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines.   Triumph Foods offers a competitive compensation and benefits, and career stability.   SUMMARY:  This individual will provide professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs and will ensure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines.  Maintain records of all plant safety information; manage safety investigations, inspections and safety training; assist in prepare reports required by Company policy and governmental regulations.  Stay abreast of environmental and safety regulations.   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Supervision of assigned staff (1).  Indirect supervision providing general direction to Production Trainer staff (28), floor management, QA, Training and Maintenance Staff, Safety Committees (20) and to Health Services staff (8).   Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities: Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing environmental health and safety. Assessing risk potential across the organization and ensuring proper signage, guarding, protection measures and training are in place. Review or develop, as required, internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.  Interfacing with all regulatory agencies and internal staff regarding inspections, audits, incident reports, responses and corrective actions (e.g., OSHA, INS, DOT, FDA, DEA, CDC, etc.) Support protocols, overseeing and conducting accident investigations, data analysis and recurrence prevention programs and procedures. Managing and tracking all safety violations and maintaining necessary records (OSHA, etc.). Participating in and directing the work of all Safety Committees (including Walks, UCRs, etc.). Initiating safety and compliance training for all levels of employees and ensuring delivery of same to keep the facility in compliance. Assist with current information on regulations and requirements related to environmental and hazardous waste/materials, including training and monitoring (e.g., HAZWOPER, SWPPP, chemical spills, etc.). Directing industrial hygiene, occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment which complies with safety standards. Develop and/or update Job Hazard Analysis/Job Descriptions. Working with others to evaluate new safety equipment and management of necessary PPE. Responding and providing assistance to all emergency situations. Keeping up-to-date on new safety methods and procedures to applicable codes and regulations or to maintain required level of certification.  Have the ability to handle tough situations with ease, influence and authority. Be a skilled safety expert with the ability to demonstrate experience in the areas of accountability above. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.   Education and/or experience: A four year degree is preferred in a related field, such as Engineering, Environmental Science or Health and Safety.   Five (5) years of related experience with some portion in the meat industry is preferred.  Well developed management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees.  Proven ability to train and motivate personnel.  Must have strong organizational skills.   Communication skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Governmental Agencies, supervisors and employees.   Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to mine, analyze, prepare and present safety data.  Be able to demonstrate proficiency in software such as OHMs, WC databases, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility.  The employee is required to sit; use hands to finger; handle; or feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; speak; hear taste and smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Be able to speak on the phone, make field visits to industrial areas when necessary, to remain on feet for extended periods of time.    Work Environment: The work environment is office and manufacturing.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to cold and/or humid conditions.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, cold temperature, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is moderate.   Normal Work Schedule: Generally nine (9) or more hours/day as scheduled by management.  Normally Monday through Friday as scheduled and weekends if necessary.  Ability to flex hours to meet the needs of the business.
