Title: Mitchell Woods Program Director Program: Youth & Children’s Services

All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines of Interfaith Community Services. Due to the nature of the mission of InterServ, all staff is expected to perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Manages the Center's day-to-day operation. Provides supervision encouragement and guidance for each staff person. Provides input to Director of Programming regarding program and staff needs, assists in the development and implementation of procedures to attend to those needs. Ensures that all guidelines and criteria of Missouri Childcare Licensing, NAEYC Accreditation, MO SchoolAge Community grant, and other stakeholders are followed.

Essential Job Functions – Responsibilities

Builds, maintains and manages Child Care staff team to carry out InterServ’s mission and philosophy of childcare.

Recruits and enrolls children, keeping all classrooms functioning at full capacity, striving to maintain at least 85% participation.

Communicates frequently with parents through a variety of ways including but not limited to a monthly newsletter. Counsels with parent, staff and child on behavior or developmental difficulties.

Promotes center through clear communication to prospective clients of Early Care & Education Program (ages birth through 12 years)– policies, schedules, advantages, and fee requirements.

Maintains current records on each child, including current physical exams, immunizations in accordance with licensing requirements, as well as eligibility for financial subsidy.

Monitors required attendance and CACFP forms, submits end of the month billing and reports to Director of Programming and Finance Department as scheduled.

Conducts monthly fire drills and quarterly tornado drills as required by Licensing.

Monitors child/staff ratio and takes action to balance staff available to children and their needs.

Interviews prospective staff according to agency policies. Hires new staff as needed.

Orients new staff and volunteers, preparing a Professional Development Plan for each new hire. Evaluates new staff at 90 day point and annual anniversary, preparing new Professional Development Plan each time.

Schedules new staff for physicals and TBs within 30 days of hire in accordance with Licensing as well as fingerprinting for Criminal Background Checks, requesting eligibility letters from DHSS at hire.

Ensures that facilities and equipment are safe and maintained in compliance with licensing requirements. Reports needed repairs, replacements and additions to Director of Programming.

Works with monitoring personnel such as Licensing, Sanitation, and Fire Safety, and NAEYC, and MO DESE. Reports findings to Director of Programming immediately.

Maintains financial records of families using the ProCare System. Runs billing weekly on Fridays for the upcoming week in cooperation with the Finance Department.

Maintains records of all children enrolled using the ProCare System. Audits attendance records and ensures personal contact information is current and accurate.

Maintains staff records using the ProCare System. Audits and prepares time sheets according to the schedule prescribed by InterServ’s Human Resources office.

Attends training programs to meet state requirement for continuing education—currently 12 hours per year. CPR and First Aid, Child Abuse and Neglect, Safe Sleep, and other state mandated trainings as required.

Ensures staff receive proper training to meet guidelines of all governing bodies.

Assesses needs of parents and children, collaborates with other departments and agencies to fill these needs, and creates good public relations with area schools, social service agencies, etc.

Observes staff daily, offering positive feedback and constructive criticism. Ensures staff are following Developmentally Appropriate Practice, NAEYC Accreditation guidelines, and NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.

Supervises Assistant Manager in ensuring weekly lesson plans are appropriate for each age level and meet governing bodies’ requirements.

Supervises Assistant Manager in ensuring staff complete all developmental assessments on each child and offers Parent/Teacher conferences to parents twice per year.

Offers at least two social/educational events for parents annually.

Creates and maintains document files and Program Portfolio for NAEYC Accreditation.

Ensures that staff create and maintain Classroom Portfolios for NAEYC Accreditation.

Works with outside agencies for technical assistance to meet NAEYC guidelines as well as requirements for the MO SAC grant for K-6th graders.

Job Specifications

Education: : BS/BA in Early Childhood related field; 24 hours must be in child related courses, prefer 18 hours in leadership/management.

Licensure: Prefer ability to meet Missouri Childcare Director Credential offered through MO-AEYC within 2 years of hire.

Experience: Prefer at least 5 years experience in child care setting of 30+ children. 1 year management experience with a staff of 10 or more.

Essential technical/motor skills: Ability to drive a 15 passenger van.

Interpersonal skills: Ability to work cooperatively with all individuals involved in program, including staff, parents and volunteers to ensure a professional effective program.

Essential Physical Requirement: Ability to sit/stand in various positions both on the floor and upright, to move children weighing 7- 50 pounds, to ascend and descend stairs, to pass TB test if required, to withstand stress of an active day. Ability to position self to access both upper and lower shelves, cabinets, etc. Ability to withstand various weather conditions in order to work outdoors for short time periods.

Essential Mental Abilities: Patience and understanding, ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats, to anticipate and prevent children’s accidents, ability to react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations, ability to complete a routine of tasks without constant supervision.

Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to observe activities of infants and toddlers, preschoolers, and schoolagers, as well as hear their cries for attention.

Exposure to Hazards: Exposure to childhood diseases, cleaning chemicals, possible exposure to blood and other infectious material as defined by OSHA.

Other: 18 years of age. Pass a criminal record review completed by the Family Care Safety Registry and Missouri State Highway Patrol. Must be able to obtain an Eligibility Letter from MO DESE.
