  Purpose:

The Senior Laboratory Manager has a strong background in analytical techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), and fiber and fat analytical methods. The Senior Laboratory Manager oversees the analytical laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards while leading a team of skilled technicians and scientists.

Job Accountabilities:

– Laboratory Operations: Manage daily analytical laboratory activities, ensuring smooth operation of all samples and processes, including environmental monitoring, sample plating, culture production, and organism library maintenance and propagation, as well as timely completion of other projects.
– Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and train laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and effective teamwork.
– Analytical Method Development: Develop, validate, and optimize, microbiological and analytical methods, specifically microbes axenic culturing and plating; HPLC, LC-MS, and fiber and fat analysis, to support research and product testing.
– Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain the highest standards of quality control and laboratory safety protocols.
– Data Analysis and Reporting: Evaluate and interpret LIMS data, generating reports and presenting findings to stakeholders monthly.
Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments, ensuring they are functioning optimally to produce reliable results.
– Budget Management: Assist in budgeting and resource allocation, managing laboratory supplies and equipment procurement.
– Research Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D and quality assurance, to support project objectives and drive innovation.
– Continuous Improvement: Implement and oversee best practices and process improvements to enhance laboratory efficiency and effectiveness.
– Act as coach and counsel to each direct report by participating with them in their assigned roles to critique their performance both positively (recognition) and constructively (suggestions for improvement) on a regular basis, always documenting personnel issues in accordance with the PIP and Progressive Discipline Policy.
– Effectively utilizes Asana to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks and collaboration with team members
– Takes ownership of financial actions and decisions ensuring awareness of how affect the company’s finances. This could involve understanding the costs associated with tasks, the time of work, or the impact of waste and inefficiencies.
– Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
– Required Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
– Required Experience: Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory setting with a strong emphasis on microbiology, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
– Technical Skills: Proficient in aseptic techniques, environmental monitoring programs (EMP), microorganism culturing and the maintenance and propagation of organism libraries. Familiarity with LIMS, HPLC, LC-MS, and other analytical methods such as ash, fiber and fat analysis is a plus.
– Knowledge: Strong understanding of laboratory safety regulations and quality management systems
