The Buchanan County Tourism Board (BCTB) d.b.a. St. Joseph, Missouri Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is seeking a collaborative, flexible and diplomatic leader with high integrity to serve as its new Executive Director.
Overview:
The CVB leverages our rich historic roots while utilizing modern resources, trends and technology to promote our treasures here at the frontier’s edge. St. Joseph and Buchanan County enjoy a past steeped in westward migration and The Pony Express, the present-day Kansas City Chiefs during their summer training camp, and many other notable attractions and sporting events. Under the Convention and Visitors Bureau's direction is a very active and successful St. Joseph, Missouri Sports Commission. This entity is responsible for dozens of local sporting events throughout the year and often works in conjunction with area schools and local government departments. This is a quickly growing area of Sports Marketing, and we are proud to say that we have an extremely well-versed, respected and experienced leader within our team. The Sports Commission has its own Executive Director who answers to the Executive Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise seven full-time and two part-time employees, and manage two locations.
• Plan, direct, and execute a program of conventions, meetings, group and leisure tourism marketing and promotional activities, as well as sporting events under the direction of the BCTB.
• Ensure a comprehensive approach to marketing and tourism development that includes leading strategic initiatives, overseeing promotional programs, and ensuring alignment with the BCTB goals.
• Drive tourism growth through innovative marketing strategies.
• Work with myriad local entities and attractions and the development of new attractions.
• Effectively managing contracts, grants, and regular Bureau operations such as the annual visitor guide, website (stjomo.com), social media channels, etc.
The CVB is governed by a board of seven members and is a political subdivision of the Buchanan County Commission. Once employed, the Executive Director is expected to reside inside Buchanan County within the first six months of employment.
